if you’ve been worried about the merge…

“It was announced at WordCamp San Francisco last year that WordPress and WordPress MU would be merging codebases. This has now happened in 3.0-alpha, and we’re working on smashing bugs and tidying up a few screens. If you’re currently using a single install of WordPress, when you upgrade to 3.0 you won’t see any of the extra screens associated with running a network of sites.

If you’re currently running MU, when you upgrade you’ll notice a few labels changing, but upgrading should be as painless as usual. If you’re going to set up a new WordPress installation, you’ll be asked as part of the setup if you want one site or multiple sites, so that’s pretty simple. If you want to turn your single install into one that supports multiple sites, we’ll have a tool for you to use to do that, too.

So if you’ve been worried about the merge, have a cup of chamomile tea and relax; it will all be fine. ”

How to Change Your FireFox Location Bar Search Engine

If your computer has been the victim of a third-party toolbar invasion (aka Yahoo IM,Ask toolbar,OpenDNS, etc) then you may notice that in the firefox location bar if you type in a keyword, now it takes you to a different search engine or a preferences page.

Previously it used to perform a Google “I’m Lucky” Search and take you to the first page of its search results automatically.

If you want to restore the Google “I’m Lucky” search then perform this simple steps:

  1. Type

    about:config

in your Firefox location bar and press Enter

  2. Type keyword in Filter textbox and you will see only the preference keyword.URL.
  3. Double-click on keyword.URL and change the value to:

    http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&q=

  4. You’re done!

That’s all it takes to restore default keyword search functionality in Google.

Note: You can use this to change to any search engine for keyword search.

How to Keep WordPress Secure

“A stitch in time saves nine. I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag, but it’s true advice for bloggers as well — a little bit of work on an upgrade now saves a lot of work fixing something later.

Right now there is a worm making its way around old, unpatched versions of WordPress….”

“…Upgrading is a known quantity of work, and one that the WordPress community has tried its darndest to make as easy as possible with one-click upgrades. Fixing a hacked blog, on the other hand, is quite hard. Upgrading is taking your vitamins; fixing a hack is open heart surgery. (This is true of cost, as well.)…”
